About Aiwen Chen

Aiwen Chen was born and raised in Guangzhou China. In 1996, she immigrated with her family to the United States and now lives in California with her family.

Chen was awarded a partial scholarship from the Imagine America Foundation in 2011 and earned her BFA from the Academy of Art in Drawing and Painting in 2017. Her artwork has been selected for the Academy of Art Annual Spring Show for three consecutive years, receiving an award for third place in the category of Landscape/Urbanscape in 2016. Currently, she is a full-time artist and a part-time art teacher for children and adults in Campbell, CA.

Inspired by the beauty of nature and attracted to places where water flows, landscapes are the subject matter Aiwen gravitates towards. She combines techniques that she learned from her mentors – Craig Nelson, Zhao Ming Wu, and Adam Forfang – and uses a palette knife with varied brushstrokes to create textures that form depth and mimic the original objects and places to reflect the peacefulness or roughness of life. She wants her art to reflect everyday human life and celebrate the beauty of nature.
