About Danielle Matthews

Danielle Matthews is a Jamaican artist living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area who specializes in portrait and figure paintings. Having migrated to California, when she returns home she is intrigued by some of the practices in everyday Jamaican life that she does not experience anywhere else.

“The Beach Vendor” is apart of an exhibition series called “Yaad Culture: The Jamaican Experience,” a series of figurative oil paintings representing this new personal discovery and appreciation for life in Jamaica. It celebrates the Jamaican culture and takes a sneak peak into the everyday lives of everyday Jamaicans.

Yaad Culture: The Jamaican Experience is currently on exhibition at the African American Art & Culture Center (AAACC) in San Francisco’s Fillmore district. Danielle is also participating in the AfroSolo Theater group exhibition Standing on the Mountain Top with her latest piece “Emerging.” This exhibition is being showcased at the San Francisco Public Library, running from August 17 to November 14, 2019.
