Born in the Land of Enchantment (New Mexico), Martin Aguilar loved color at an early age. Bay Area figurative and abstract painters influenced his approach to color and composition, such as Richard Diebenkorn and Hans Hoffman.
By approaching abstract painting with spontaneity, Aguilar balances form, color, and composition, drawing the viewer into a sense of calm. Some paintings are abstract landscapes, others are fields of color. By using layers of color and suggestions of luminosity, Aguilar hopes to draw the viewer into a contemplative state of mind.
