Tibor Simon-Mazula

Tibor Simon-Mazula

Hungarian born artist Tibor Simon-Mazula works intuitively, taking refuge in the physical and tactile aspects of painting. He draws upon his background in mathematics, filmmaking, and cinematography to create dream-like scenes. His oil paintings incorporate materials such as bone ash, marble dust, and alum.

Tibor left Europe in 2008. After two years in Dubai, his fascination with the Bay Area Figurative Movement led him to California to earn his MFA in Painting. In 2013 he was named “Emerging Artist” at the Academy of Art University. Tibor exhibited at the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art and in the White Walls Gallery in San Francisco with artists such as MC Escher and Don Ed Hardy.

As a winner of the 2015 Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series Competition, his work was featured at SCOPE Miami Beach. In 2016, his art was on display at DAX Gallery in Costa Mesa next to the works of Keith Haring. In 2018 his paintings have been shown in the Florida State University Museum of Fine Arts.

Through painting, Tibor wants to understand recurrent and developing elements of contemporary life. Recently he had a Solo Exhibition at Munkacsy Mihaly Musem in Hungary, and published a fine art book, which includes—besides 80 paintings—essays from American and Hungarian artists, writers, musicians and Mazula. Texts were written specifically for the book; it was reviewed in magazines including NY-Art News.

Tibor lives in Budapest with his wife Diana, who inspires his paintings.
