Estimates
The catalog includes value estimates for each lot. The estimates are provided as an approximate guide to current market value and should not be interpreted as a representation or prediction of actual selling prices. They are determined in advance and are subject to revision.
Catalogs
Before each auction, we publish illustrated catalogs that include dates and times for previews and auctions. Our catalogs also provide descriptions and estimated values for each “lot.” Lot descriptions are as follows:
LOT# » TITLE / Artist / Medium / Dimensions (in Inches) / Value / Starting Bid (silent auction only)
Bidding
For both our Live and Silent Auctions, you can bid either in person or via absentee bid. By bidding at auction, whether in person or by absentee bid, the buyer or bidder agrees to be bound by the Conditions of Sale. Absentee bids can be submitted in person, online or via email. Academy of Art University assumes no responsibility for failure to execute bids for any reason whatsoever.
Live Auction Bidding
You must register before the start of the auction in order to participate. You can obtain registration information online, onsite or by calling 415.274.2200. All Live Auction bids are determined by auctioneer. Lots are auctioned in consecutive numerical order as they appear in the catalog. Bidding normally begins below the low estimate. The auctioneer will accept bids from interested parties present in the saleroom and from absentee bidders who have left written bids in advance of the sale.
Register and bid on auction items
In Person
In order to bid in the Live Auction, you must first register at the reception desk in order to receive a numbered bid card. To place a bid, hold up your card so that the auctioneer can clearly see it. If you are the successful bidder on a lot, the auctioneer will acknowledge your paddle number and bid amount.
Absentee Bids
As a service to those wishing to place bids, we may at our discretion accept bids in advance of sale by telephone, by email. “Buy” bids will not be accepted; all bids must state the highest bid price the bidder is willing to pay.
Our auction staff will try to bid just as you would, with the goal of obtaining the item at the lowest bid price possible. In the event that identical bids are submitted, the earliest bid submitted will take precedence. Absentee bids shall be executed in competition with other absentee bids and bids from other auction participants.
Absentee bidders must provide credit card information in advance in order for Academy of Art University to execute the bid. If you are the winner of the lot, you will be charged immediately at the close of the sale. Absentee bid at The Cannery, 2801 Leavenworth Street, San Francisco, California 94133.

Silent Auction Bidding
Those who wish to bid in the Silent Auction do not need to register in order to participate. At the predetermined time for the close of the sale, auction staff will identify the successful bidder for each lot.
In Person
Bidders will write in their bids on the bid cards posted next to the Silent Auction lots. Bidders must bid according to the increments specified on the Silent Auction bid cards.
Absentee Bids
Absentee bids for the Silent Auction will follow the same rules and procedures as above stated.
